Online therapy for people living abroad, in Turkish or English

Wherever you live, in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK or further away, you can talk in the language you feel most at home in. Sessions take place over a secure video call, in Turkish or English.

Why language matters

You may speak the language of your new country fluently. Even so, feelings such as anger, shame, longing or love often find words more easily in the language we first learned them in. Being able to talk without translating, and without explaining the cultural background each time, can make a real difference.

Some people, especially those who grew up abroad, find certain topics easier in English. Sessions can be in Turkish or English, and switching between the two within one session is completely fine.

How online sessions work

  • You join a secure video call from a computer or phone. The link is sent by email before the session.
  • All you need is a quiet, private room, headphones and a stable internet connection.
  • Turkey is on UTC+3 all year: 2 hours ahead of Central Europe in winter and 1 hour in summer, 3 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 2 in summer.
  • We agree on days and times based on your local time. Evening sessions in European time can be arranged, and flexible scheduling can be discussed if you work shifts.

Payment and insurance

Payment is by international bank transfer or card. Fees are shared when you get in touch.

Online sessions with a psychologist based in Turkey are usually not covered by statutory health insurance in your country, so sessions are self paid. If you have private or supplementary cover, it is worth checking the terms directly with your insurer.

Confidentiality and what to expect

What you share is kept confidential within professional ethics and the law, and the legal limits of confidentiality are discussed openly in the first session. The first session is a chance to get to know each other; you decide how much to share. Sessions usually last 50 minutes, and we agree together on how often to meet.

I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic (psychoanalytically informed) therapy. Therapy does not guarantee a specific outcome, but it offers a safe space to understand what you are going through.

When to seek support where you live

Online sessions are not suitable for emergencies. If your safety or someone else's is at risk, call the emergency number of the country you are in straight away: 112 across the European Union, 999 in the UK (112 also works), 144 for an ambulance in Switzerland. You can also go to the nearest emergency department.

If medication, close psychiatric follow up or inpatient care may be needed, please see your local GP or a psychiatrist. If I think this applies, I will tell you clearly and we will think together about how to connect with local support.

Frequently asked questions

What times are possible?

We agree on a day and time based on your local time. Turkey is 2 hours ahead of Central Europe in winter and 1 hour in summer, so evening sessions in European time can be arranged.

Which language are sessions in?

Turkish or English, whichever feels more comfortable. You can also move between the two within a session.

Will my health insurance cover the sessions?

Usually not. Statutory insurance in most countries does not cover sessions with a psychologist based in Turkey. If you have private or supplementary cover, please check with your insurer.

Do I also need support where I live?

Often not, but if medication, emergency support or close follow up is needed, your local GP or a psychiatrist is the right first contact.

Can we meet in person when I visit Turkey?

Yes, in person sessions in Istanbul are possible, and online and in person sessions can be combined.
